The Biometric State

My review of Keith Breckenridge’s terrific ‘Biometric State: The Global Politics of Identification and Surveillance’ (CUP, 2014) has been published in Politique Africaine. This is a really important book about the development of biometric technologies in South Africa, as well as a compelling bureaucratic history. It also offers us important ways to conceptualise the new politics of biometrics.
